Song of the Week
Marta Milan
On my own
Marta Milan knew she wanted to sing from a very early age. Already as a 5-year-old girl she kept singing, and when she was a little older and got a karaoke set as a present from her parents, she started experimenting with recording different versions of songs of artists she knew.
Marta studied at Anna German school of Music and Performing Arts in her home town Bialystok, Poland. At the age of 16 she moved to the United States and studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Then she moved to Miami to study at South Florida Voice Studios, where her teacher is Beth Cohen.
Apart from composing and performing her own songs (her first songs were recorded with Paweł Mąciwoda of the Scorpions in New York), Marta Milan also participated successfully in a number of competitions. She took first place in Karaoke Idol USA 2009 and entered the semifinals of The New Wave Singing Competition in Helsinki in 2009. She has also sung in Broadway play "Perfidia" directed by Steven Kalvar (Manhattan Repertory Theatre). Other most important competitions include The World Trade Center 2001 Concert( I wrote a song "Don't Run Away " dedicated to the vicitms of the WTC ); Polish and Slavic Union Concert in NYC- (I performed as a support at N.Kukulska's concert); Eleni Concert (support band); Cat Cay Concert (Bahamas 2009); Stanislaw Soyka's concert in NYC (support); participation in the TV HOGAR music program in Miami; Greenpoint Festival 2008 (NYC); Young Artists Music Festival 2007; The World of Expressions Music Awards (performance). Marta Milan has also acted in films: Engaging (the premiere is going to be held in Miami in December), Band of Outsiders, Dirty Salsa and appeared in commercials of Cablevision, MAC Cosmetics and ITT Tech.
At the moment, Marta Milan is participating in a competition for the next vocalist of the Polish popular band Ich Troje.
