Song of the Week
Angie Arsenault
All you need
Angie Arsenault grew up on Prince Edward Island and later moved to Montreal. She debuted with a self-released four-song EP The First Set, which was soon downloaded 2000 times; 80 000 MySpace listens and 200 000 YouTube views followed. Encouraged by the way her music was getting exposure on the Internet, in April 2007 Angie signed up on the fan-funding website Sellaband.com to raise funds for a full album. A little over a year later, thanks to over 500 fans, she reached her target of 50 000 $, becoming the first Canadian artist to have her album financed this way.

The album Once Upon a Dream was a collection of beautiful, haunting songs, accompanied by impressive artwork - a real collector's item. The album's focus on dreams was more than a theme, it had to do with the way Angie saw the creative process. She said: "

"I believe the creative process starts with the dreams more than the music. There are always certain dreams or visions that stay with me, and even weeks or months later they'll still be there like a cloud over my head. And music really helps me put that into perspective and bring it into a more real dimension."

In January 2010, Angie Arsenault started another project on Sellaband. At first she wanted to raise funds to promote Once upon a Dream, but while fundraising, she made a lot of new songs in a different style than before. She started recording them and wanted to release them as soon as possible, so she changed the goal of her project and decided to make an EP and a short film. The songs kept coming and the EP soon became another full album, which her believers could hear soon after Angie reached the target in October 2010.

"Lie Soft" is a song from Angie's second album Shadow Revelations. The album is accompanied by a short film which you can see on this page, just above the title of this week's winning song.

Angie Arsenault never lets her creativity rest for long. After completing her second album, she started another project: The Roots Project. This time Angie reaches back to her musical roots and makes music with her family: mother, brother and sister.

All releases of Angie Arsenault can be purchased from her website.
