Song of the Week
Fleur Jack
Ghosts of Cimarron
Fleur Jack started to write songs already as a child, but as a teenager became more serious about it. After graduating from school, she spent a year busking on Queen Street in Auckland in her home country, New Zealand.
It was her goal to play her own songs in bars by the time she was 18, and she achieved it. She also went to music school to develop her skills and graduated two years later with a degree in contemporary performance music. She also won awards: Songwriter of the Year, Performer of the Year and Outstanding Overall Student.
Together with her band The Twitch which she formed at school, Fleur Jack won the New Zealand final of World Battle of the Bands in 2005. The Twitch performed in the world final in Hong Kong, taking second place.
Fleur Jack's next band was Pavlova and the Jandals, which was later renamed Fleur Jack and the Jandals. In 2010, Fleur Jack raised € 9000 on SellaBand.com to record her debut album. The album, Ghosts of Cimarron, has just been released. Fleur is currently touring New Zealand together with Katie Thompson (our last week's winner), and in August this year she will head for the United States to play at International Pop Overthrow Festival in Seattle.
