BulletProof Messenger was started as a band called Gone To Earth, formed by DJ/Programmer Matt Litwin, bassist Josh Rieger and guitarist Jon Maisel in 2001. After some time, they were joined by the vocalist Marc who, however, left the group after some time. In January 2004, the band gained a new vocalist, Marcus Clavan. Later, Alex Straiter joined the band as a drummer.

In the winter 2005 the group was put on a standstill when Maisel was upset with the group's refusal to sign a 3-song recording demo contract. Straiter and Rieger left the band.

In 2006, the group made a fresh start under a new name: BulletProof Messenger. The group was rejoined by Straiter and they recorded their first album, The Crucial Line, which was an enhanced CD with video.

In November the band got their new guitarist Steve Martin and bassist Jesse Downing. By 2007 they played in their current line-up.

In March 2007, BulletProof Messenger registered on a then budding fan-funding website Sellaband.com to fund their next album. They reached their target in December the same year and in 2008 their second album, Arm Yourself, was completed. It was released in January 2009.
