Berrypicking
"I like it when an artist makes original music. Sadly, the music of most artists who try to be original is not nice to listen to any more. CATSELF has the ability to make music that is both very original and nice to listen to. That was my first thought when I listened to her music for the first time and I still love listening to it months later. The lyrics are also original but what is the most important for me is CATSELF's original and catchy melodies, arrangements and voice. I am sure that also listeners who are normally more into the mainstream kind of sound will enjoy her songs." - Johan Jongerius, founder of TalentCast
"In a world of sound-alike music, CATSELF is producing unique songs that don't always go where you might expect, and that's a very good thing. The fact she can do so with the result being memorable and capable of repeated listening is the sign of a rare talent." - Michael Hunter, music journalist and radio host
"Admirably fierce, uncompromising, intelligent, deep, radiant & with generosity of spirit. Not to mention the kind of frankness that refreshes Sellaband. Listen to everything she does & watch her blossom & bloom." - Ariel, artist on SellaBand
CATSELF decided to focus seriously on music in autumn 2008 when she realised that there was nothing else she could do better (and with more enjoyment, but that was the less important reason). She put up her first multi-instrumental recordings on SellaBand.com, where quickly many new fans invested in her future album, and on MySpace, which brought her a number of international gigs - the most expotic being at the Sun Festival in Marrakech, Morocco, where she played in July 2009. Currently CATSELF is on 4th position on SellaBand (out of almost 3500 artists) and is hoping to start working on her first professional album already this year, after completing the fundraising.
CATSELF has already home-recorded her collection of songs Some Berries (11 tracks). You can order it by contacting CATSELF or purchase it at one of her shows.
Berrypicking, composed and recorded in spring 2009, is CATSELF's first song for piano. In typical for CATSELF surprising ways, it tells about growing up, freedom, sex, movement.
