The Imaginary Suitcase

Rue des alexiens, 67, 1000 Brussels, Brussels, Belgium

Venue:

The Imaginary Suitcase is the one in which Belgian singer-songwriter LaurentLeemans keeps his dead or barely breathing illusions and the cherished memories of fantasized lives. Laurent used to be the singer of folk-rock outfit Ceilí Moss from 1996 to 2015 and of arty-new wave band La Vierge du Chancelier Rolin in the nineties. This solo project started in 2012, when the desire to breathe life into some Ceilí Moss leftovers grew stronger than the fear of becoming the zillionth crashing bore who whines his small time existentialism over two and a half chords.

What to expect ? A bittersweet mixture of passion, sincerity, melancholy and dark energy carried along (not always) crystal clear melodies by a strong, low, versatile and powerful voice, that will as easily caress, tickle or scratch, deceptively simple guitar chords and lyrics that deal with life, death and the confusing bits in between with a healthy portion of sarcasm.

Comparison is not reason, but it helps to know where we’re going, so let’s go : if you’re a fan of 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand, Nick Cave (before he became boring), Suzanne Vega, Rowland S. Howard, Leonard Cohen, Hugo Race, Paul Roland or Joseph Arthur, there is a fair chance you will enjoy travelling with this suitcase.

Slinky & P'tit Loup in Concert

Teuven-Dorp 61, 3798 Voeren, Limburg, Belgium

Venue:

afternoon  blues concert with Slinky & P'tit Loup

Slinky Williams and her life partner, P’tit Loup (French for Little Wolf), are an enigmatic pair of string players who lay down a funky mix of acoustic blues with a light, breezy feel no matter what the source of their material, which ranges from New Orleans funk to Duke Ellington and modern blues.

Background information on the duo is sketchy at best. They’re veterans of the European music scene, and are based in Germany despite their roots, which appear to be French and American. Slinky handles most of the vocals while adding mandolin, while she and P’tit Loup double on guitar and percussion. Partners in life as well as on stage, they’ve been making music together since 1972, when they worked in Gurnemanz, a band influenced by the folk music movement in Great Britain.

They produced two subsequent LPs(Spielmannskinder, No Raise Of Noise) before switching gears to play world music and one disc with the band GAIA(All In Green with W. Waglewski). They played rock and jazz during the ‘90s before forming the blues-rock unit, The Xperts. They’ve been working as a duo for the past few years, serving up heaping helpings of old-time blues, swing and jazz while demonstrating prowess on the fretboard. And they recorded Movin’ On at home. Since laying down these tracks, they’re now working with a bass player when on the road.” (Marty Gunther Blues Blast Magazine, July 2016)

New material with “Monster”Joe Leduc on upright bass has been recorded and is available both on Vinyl(plus download options) and CD. “ZONE BLEUE”is the title of the new album with both originals and cover songs. More information on the web side:http://mnlrdl.wixsite.com/slinkyptitloup
